Company K at Resaca, 2023
Q: What is Civil War Reenacting?
A: Reenacting is the portrayal of the American Civil War using authentic uniforms, weapons, tents, and equipment. Reenacting has two components: Living History Events, and Battle Reenactments. The goal of reenacting is to be educational and teach spectators about the American Civil War.

Q: What is the difference between Living History Events and Battle Reenactments?
A: Living History Events generally do not have a battle component. They depict a certain place and time, and include events such as garrisons and encampments. Battle Reenactments are just that: reenactments of battles or skirmishes that were fought, or depicting what was typical of engagements during the war.
Q: Do I have to know Civil War history to join?
A: No, you can join with any level of knowledge on the Civil War or history in general.

Q: Is there a minimum age to participate?
A: There is no minimum age to participate in reenacting, however, you must be 16 or older to carry a rifle and shoot in battles. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or guardian join Company K, as well.

Q: Can women participate?
A: Yes, women are very welcome. It is very common to find women in the hobby, both as civilians and soldiers.

Q: What is the time commitment?
A: You can participate as much or as little as you would like. Events are typically Friday through Sunday, and Company K participates in anywhere from five to eight events per year.

Q: What events does Company K participate in?
A: Please view our Schedule to find events Company K will be participating in. You can also find the next event the company will be attending on our homepage.

Q: Do I have to own my own equipment to get started?
A: No, you do not. In fact, we encourage you to try out the hobby before purchasing anything. Company K owns a wide variety of gear for the purpose of loaning out, and our Quartermaster can supply you with almost everything you need in order to begin.

Q: How much does it cost to get started?
A: While the necessary uniforms and gear can widely vary in price, we do not require you to make any purchases to get started. We only require a $35 payment so we can add you to our insurance policy.

Q: Can I just show up to an event?
A: You are more than welcome to come to an event to meet us. If you wish to participate, please contact us ahead of time so we can ensure we have equipment for you.
